16 year old violinist and pianist, Colleen Venables, student
of Bill van der Sloot at Mount Royal University Conservatory, the 2012 Yehudi
Menuhin International Violin Competition participate, has won many 1st
prizes at the BC Performing Arts Festivals and took the 1st prize at
the 2012 Canadian National Music Festival.
As a featured solo artist, Miss. Venables was featured twice at the Canada’s Rising Stars concert; performed with many orchestras such as Vancouver Symphony, Okanagan Symphony, Kamloops Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestral, Calgary Civic Orchestral and Canada Day Orchestral; had the honor to perform Chopin piano works on CVC Radio; shared the stage with virtuoso violinist, Ning Feng in the “path to Virtuosity”, Wyatt Artist-in-Residence Concert Series; performed Canadian work at Western Canadian Music Awards Concert and also at International Children’s Games opening ceremony; gave a solo recital in place of Sarah Chan on behalf of the Calgary Philharmonic Symphony “Amadeus Patrons” event.
Colleen has worked with artist around the world such as Pinchas Zukerman, Leonidas Kavakos, Andres Cardenes, Ian Swensen, Tong Wei-Dong, Tadeusz Gadzina, Nicola Benedetti, Gerardo Ribeiro, members of Shanghai Quartet, members of Miro Quartet and Ian Parker. She enjoys dancing, singing, improvising and any form of art that allows her to express and share with other people.
