Julian Rhee

Julian Rhee, age 12, is a 7th grader at Brookfield Academy
in Brookfield, WI. Julian is currently a Merit Scholarship recipient from the
Music Institute of Chicago where he is studying privately with Ms. Hye-Sun Lee.
Julian commenced his violin studies at age 4 and made history when at age 7 and
8, he became the youngest ever to perform side by side with Milwaukee Symphony
Orchestra winning the Bach Double Competition. Subsequently, he has won
numerous national and regional competitions often being the youngest to ever
win these select awards. He was the winner of the 2011 Madison Concerto
Competition at age 11. As the winner, he was the guest soloist with the Madison
Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro John DeMain. Julian was also
the youngest winner of The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto
Competition. He was chosen the winner of the 2011 and 2010 Concerto Competition
where he performed a solo with the full orchestra.
Most recently, Julian was the winner of the 2012 Sejong Music Competition sponsored by the Korean Society of Chicago. Other recent competition awards include the 2011 Society of American Musicians, MTNA, DePaul University Music Competition, Walgreens National Concerto Competition, and Confucius Competition.
In addition to his commitment to violin study, Julian is an honor roll student at a competitive prep school. However, his favorite subject in school is Study Hall where he can finish up his homework, have lunch, and catch up with his friends. In his free time he practices the piano, loves to read, plays basketball and video games with friends, and is an avid local sports team fan.
