2016 International Junior Division Winners
1st Laureate
Hana Chang, USA - 1st Laureate of the 2016 Competition

13-year-old Hana Chang began playing violin at age 4 with Klaudia Szlachta and currently studies with Prof. Ivan Zenaty of the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) under the Junior Young Artist Program. Her past teachers also include Prof. Yuri Mazurkevich of Boston University and Miguel Perez-Espejo Cardenas. Besides violin, she studied viola for the past three years with Peter Sulski. As an avid chamber musician, she has played in groups at CIM, the New England Conservatory (NEC) Preparatory School and at the Lexington Chamber Music Center.

Maya Buchanan, USA - 2nd Laureate of the 2016 Competition

Indian/Italian violinist, Maya Anjali Buchanan, 16, studies with Almita and Roland Vamos at the Music Institute of Chicago Academy, an elite training program for advanced precollege musicians. She is an Academy Tenth Anniversary Fellow Laureate (2015/16) and receives a full-tuition merit scholarship. During the summer season, she studies with Paul Kantor at the Aspen Music Festival-and School.
3rd Laureate
Joshua Brown, US - 3rd Laureate of the 2016 Competition

16-year-old Joshua Brown studies violin with Almita and Roland Vamos at the Music Institute of Chicago's (MIC) Academy, an elite training program for advanced pre-college musicians. He is the recipient of the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Laureate Fellowship, the highest level scholarship awarded by MIC.
4th Laureate
Zachary Brandon, US - 4th Laureate of the 2016 Competition

17-year-old Zachary Brandon, age seventeen, is a scholarship recipient and member of the Academy of the Music Institute of Chicago where he studies violin with Dr. Roland and Almita Vamos and Dr. Hye-Sun Lee.
Zachary was a semifinalist in the International Stradivarius Violin competition, The William Byrd International Young artist competition, and the International Thomas and Eva Cooper violin competition. Furthermore, Zachary is a semifinalist this year in the International Stulberg String competition.

5th Laureate
Lingyu Dong, US - 5th Laureate of the 2016 Competition

Lingyu Dong is currently studying at Central Conservatory of Music Middle School, which is one of top conservatories in China. He began to learn violin at age 5, and won numerous prizes in Shandong province competitions. When he was 8 years old, he began to take private lessons with WeiDong Tong who is the director of the orchestral department in Central Conservatory of Music Middle School.
