Q: Who sponsors the Stradivarius International Violin Competition?
A: The SIVC is a non-profit organization, whose primary sponsor is Charles W. Liu Fine Violins. Other contributors can be found on our website under Sponsors.
Q: Where will the competition be held?
A: The SIVC hosts its events in Salt Lake City, primarily on the University of Utah Campus.
Q: Are events open to the public?
A: YES!!! The public is encouraged to attend and, as far as possible, all events will have audience seating available.
Q: Who can participate?
A: The SIVC is strictly for violin players. No other string instruments are allowed. Please review the current Rules and Regulations for age requirements.
Q: Who are the judges?
A: The SIVC judges are some of the finest performers and teachers from around the world. A new jury is selected for each competition. Some representative judges from previous competitions were Victor Danchenko (Curtis Institute of Music), Andres Cardenes (Concert Master of Pittsburgh Symphony), Alvero De Grande (Retiring Assistant Concert Master of the Cleveland Orchestra), Stephen Clapp (Emeritus Dean of The Juilliard School), Nicholas Mann (String Department Chair of the Manhattan School of Music), among others.
Q: As a participant, must I memorize all of my music?
A: YES!!! All music must be memorized, with the exception of duo or chamber Sonatas.
